WORLD ELEPHANT POLO ASSOCIATION CHAMPIONSHIP 1988

 13th December 1988

The Seventh World Elephant Polo Association Championship was played 7th to 12th December 1988 at Tiger Tops Nepal. Eight teams competed in the tournament and in the exciting final the Championship was won by the Nepal National Parks team ably captained by Mr. B. N. Upreti, Director General of National Parks and Wildlife Conservation who defeated the defending champions the Tiger Tops Tuskers by 4 goals to one (with a one goal handicap for the National Parks). The Tiger Tops team was captained as usual by Founder and Vice Chairman of WEPA A.J. Jim Edwards, Executive Chairman of Tiger Mountain and ably supported by Yam Gurung, the Manager of Tiger Tops Jungle Lodge, Indra Bahadur Tamang and Prithvi Raj Kumal. The National Parks team consisted  of their star performers Ram Pritt, Kuber Gurung, Chandra Bahadur and Bachchu Choudhari. The J&B All Nepal Trophy which was introduced last year was also won by the National Parks Team for the second time defeating the Tiger Tops Tuskers by one goal to nil.

The Ladies Challenge Cup  was won by the Map Dreamers by 3 goals to 2 defeating the home team Tiger Tigresses who lost the trophy for the first time since its inception in 1983. The Map Dreamers – a Californian team were new entrants this year sponsored by Thos Bros. Maps USA. Captained by Ms. Judy Peterson the players were Dana Herbert, Linda Johnson, Peggy day and the celebrity  super- star Stephanie Powers (on loan from PanAm). The attire of white breeches and green and white shirts (with matching green earrings for the ladies !) The Tiger Tops Tigresses were captained by Margie McDougal and the players were Sara Bampfylde, Samantha Auttie

WEPA 25th Anniversary

It seems like the World Elephant Polo Association was established at Tiger Tops in Nepal only a few years back and its quite amazing to realise that with a blink, years have passed by so quickly. Its now time for the 25th anniversary of the most unusual sport of the year – World Elephant Polo Tournament at Tiger Tops.
